Lily King is the award-winning author of the novels The Pleasing Hour, The English Teacher, Father of the Rain, and Euphoria, one of the New York Times Book Review’s “10 Best Books of 2014,” finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, and winner of the Kirkus Prize.
Her latest book Writers & Lovers that she will discuss during the zoom event on March 14th, is a New York Times Bestseller.  It will be available in paperback in early February 2021. It was a New York Times Notable Book of 2020, and named a “Best Book of 2020” by CBS Sunday Morning, NPR’s “Fresh Air”, The Washington Post, People, NPR, the Los Angeles Times, among others. Lily King lives in Maine.

Lily King encouraged us to support independent book stores by buying her books through them. With that in mind, we reached out to The Bear and the Books, our local independent bookstore in Hopewell, NJ, to see if they would sell copies of Writers & Lovers to our Book Lovers Luncheon attendees. They agreed and will therefore have a limited number of signed paperback copies of Writers & Lovers for sale to you at a discount. If you are interested in purchasing a copy of this book from The Bear and the Books, please contact them via email at thebearandthebooks@verizon.net or (609) 466-1166 to place an order. Although this bookstore is not open to incoming customers at this time, you will be able to pick up books at the store or have them shipped to you. Other books by Lily King, as well as books by J. Courtney Sullivan, may also be ordered by contacting The Bear and the Books.

Recorded Date: Sunday, March 14, 2021

The Book Lovers Luncheon is a fundraiser for the Hopewell Valley Education Foundation. Proceeds will support the annual Author-in-Residence program in the Hopewell Valley public schools. You may want to visit our website at hvef.org for more information about this organization.

Virtual Luncheon:
Although the Book Lovers Luncheon will not be held in person this year, registered virtual attendees will be able to watch Lily King be interviewed by author J. Courtney Sullivan about Writers & Lovers. There will be an opportunity to ask Lily King questions about this book, either via online chat or by submitting questions to us beforehand at books@hvef.org.

Ms. Sullivan, who was the 2019 Book Lovers Luncheon author, where she discussed Saints for All Occasions, released her latest book, Friends & Strangers, in June 2020. We are delighted to have her participate in this first virtual Book Lovers Luncheon event.

Since we cannot meet together in person for a luncheon this year, maybe you could plan to eat lunch doing a zoom meeting with your book club while you discuss Writers & Lovers either before or after the Book Lovers event.

As we have done for past Book Lovers Luncheons, we will be collecting book lists from attendees that we will collate and give to all those who have registered for the event. Please send a list of books that you or your book club have read this past year by using the link on your confirmation form that you will be sent immediately after you complete the registration process. The collated lists will be emailed to you either right before or right after March 14th.

You can view the recording of the Book Lovers Luncheon electronically until April 27th by clicking and making payment here.
